One woman’s story of triumph!
Kelly King wanted a bachelor’s degree, and this is how she did it. While working at Florida State University in 1995, it became a life goal to get a college degree from FSU. It wasn’t until 2001, that Kelly had the opportunity to begin college courses at Tallahassee Community College (TCC). Then a career opportunity moved her to Tampa, FL where she transferred to the Hillsborough Community. During this time, Kelly was her mother’s primary caregiver until she ultimately passed away from Multiple system atrophy (MSA) in 2018. It wasn’t until 2019, and many life events later that she was able to finish what she had started.
Now living in Okeechobee, she transferred to Indian River State College where she succeeded in achieving an associate degree in Sociology. With this achievement under her belt, she Applied to Florida State University and started the final portion of her journey to obtaining her bachelor’s degree, graduating in 2021!
“I could not have achieved this life goal without the inspiration of my daughter, Harley Sharpton, who received her bachelor’s degree in History from the University of South Florida in May of 2020 and my Stepdaughter, Kaitlen King, who received her master’s degree in History from Auburn University also in May of 2020. Although putting my college education off for so many years due to life challenges, I must recognize VP Aviation Technical Services, for the flexibility of my career position that has allowed me to succeed this life goal of mine. Woohoo, I DID IT! GO NOLES!” – Kelly King
We couldn’t be prouder of Kelly and all of us at VP Aviation wish you CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations Kelly!!!
