Women in Aviation Week Spotlight: Susan Johnson

It’s Women in Aviation Week (March 4-8, 2024) and we are thrilled to highlight the remarkable achievements and contributions of the women who drive VP Aviation forward. In this spotlight we will dig deeper into our Project Engagement Manager, Susan Johnson and her career in aviation.

Susan’s entire career has been in aviation which started with obtaining her Aircraft Dispatch license. Through some career twists and turns, she landed firmly with the VP Aviation team in charge of all outreach. Susan is the force behind all of our social media posts, media and PR.

But let’s not forget, Susan’s love for aviation isn’t just professional—it runs in her veins! She hails from a family of aviation aficionados, including a pilot, an air traffic controller, and an engineer. And let’s not overlook her remarkable daughter, a shining A&P Mechanic specializing in avionics.

We asked Susan to tell us more!

Why VP Aviation?

Mike Chally made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.  Going on 5 years ago, I had the privilege of starting VP Aviation’s outreach with the promotion of our stellar mobile Aircraft Maintenance Teams who offer AOG, Project and Supplemental hourly support AND who are some of the best in the industry.  Being able to document our journey to success has been an amazing ride and one I plan on continuing for years to come.

What has been the greatest achievement in your aviation career?

There are a few different ones I can think of but it is that first day of my first job. Just walking through the door to the start of what would end being my life journey in aviation. They say showing up is 90% of the battle and I think that’s true to some extent. Whether you walk in shaking or full of confidence, just walk in.

What is one thing about yourself you are proud of?
When people ask me this I say the birth of my children. But the sparkle behind my eye is the day I earned my Aircraft Dispatch license. I drove home on such a high! I did that for ME! Then when I got home I cleaned the bathrooms and took out the garbage, but I did it with an Aircraft Dispatch license!
